Business standards

To the editor:

I pose this question: Would we need a living wage ordinance if we attracted better companies and upgraded our standards and criteria for recruiting/selecting businesses wanting to locate here? I am referring to those that are highly ethical, socially responsible, and maintain sound financial standing. I, for one, would be in favor of increases in tax abatements if this resulted in higher quality enterprises that could meet ALL of the employment needs of our community. I realize this is a simplistic approach, but it might be worth investigating.
