Lyrical protest

To the editor:

“Dear old golden rule days” doesn’t seem to describe today’s culture. But the song “School Days” is such a durable tune, I suggest the following new lyric:

“Sprawlmart, Sprawlmart,

Giant we-take-all-mart!

Payless is watching its profits drop,

So is each neighborhood mom-and-pop,

Blow on the bugle, bang the drum,

Minimum wages, here we come,

And we’re helpless beneath a giant thumb

For Sprawlmart is coming to town!”
