U.N. is there

To the editor:

Did I miss an important front page story?

It was only on July 5, with the Journal-World’s front page taken up mostly by local July Fourth images, that I found a small item, tucked away on page 5A, about the shipments of food into Iraq, distributed by the United Nations World Food program (the United Nations, that organization snubbed, disregarded and apparently diminished by our actions in Iraq).

Its “largest food operation in history” had been going on through the month of June and will continue through October, with one truckload of food going into Iraq each minute of every day. Let us hope this signifies that the United Nations is strong enough to survive even the strongest member’s disdain, and to go about its important business, a part of which consists of post-invasion relief when the unmet immediate need is great.

Mrs. Albert Bloch,
