To the editor:

As team recruitment chairwoman for the American Cancer Society’s Ninth annual Relay For Life of Lawrence, I would like to thank the participants, volunteers, sponsors, and Lawrence community for their generosity and support. Fifty-seven teams participated in this year’s event, raising more than $84,000 for American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy, and service programs. The outstanding support received proves the community of Lawrence is truly committed to the fight against cancer.

I want to applaud the 170 survivors who participated in the opening lap and the survivor recognition. They are the reason we continue the fight.

I also want to send special thanks to the Relay For Life committee members and volunteers who did an outstanding job making this event a success.

We also appreciate the generosity of this year’s media, corporate, and in-kind sponsors. Relay For Life would not be possible without them.

Again, thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, and remember it’s not too early to become involved in Relay For Life for next year.
