‘River City Weekly’ looks at Dole center events

Dole Institute of Politics director Richard Norton Smith joins host Greg Hurd to discuss the upcoming dedication celebration in this week’s “River City Weekly.”

Smith describes the institute’s purposes and talks about attending dignitaries, including former presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, as well as the events highlighting the dedication.

U.S. Marine Capt. William Howell then joins Hurd to talk about the Memory Tent, which will be located near the Dole Institute on Kansas University’s west campus. World War II veterans will share their wartime experiences with the public through the weekend.

“River City Weekly” premieres on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays with encore presentations at 7:30 weeknights, 8:30 weekday mornings and 9 a.m. Saturdays.

Law enforcers in focus at ACLU meeting

The Douglas County American Civil Liberties Union plans a public meeting Thursday about local law enforcement issues.

Mary Davidson, chapter president, said profiling and harassment concerns would be discussed. She said Lawrence Police Chief Ron Olin and Douglas County Sheriff Rick Trapp had been invited.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt.
