Most offices to close for Fourth
Virtually all government services will shut down today as Douglas County and the nation celebrate Independence Day.
All area city halls and the county courthouse will be closed today, as will state and federal offices.
The Lawrence Transit System will be closed and the T and T Lift will not operate. There will be no trash pickups but commercial trash collection will be completed as scheduled.
Kansas University will not conduct classes and campus offices will be closed.
There will be no mail deliveries nor deliveries from UPS or FedEx.
All activities, including clubs, classes and the noon meal, will be canceled at the Lawrence Senior Center. Cancellation of meals includes home-delivered meals. Bus 62 service also will be canceled.
Banks will be closed and so will the Lawrence Public Library.
Liquor stores are required by Kansas law to be closed on the Fourth of July.
The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Carl Knox Natatorium and the South Park wading pool will be closed.
The Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Journal-World circulation office will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. USA Today will be not be published.
