Move the protests

To the editor:

This past weekend, tens of thousands of people in the United States and other countries in the world demonstrated for the very worthy cause of wanting peace, not war. They particularly gathered in New York and Washington, D.C.

Because it takes at least two sides to have a war, it appears to me that the only side being told that war is bad is the United States and the United Nations and this makes it appear they are the cause of the problem. I wonder if any demonstrators demonstrated in Iraq last weekend? Do you suppose Saddam feels he has done nothing wrong in the past? That he is doing nothing wrong now and is not a threat of any kind in the future?

Don’t we need to let him know he could cause the sanctions against his country to be dropped, which would improve the quality of life of his own people? Couldn’t he be told by demonstrations that he, alone, could end this conflict which would help bring about peace, not war? If we want peace, not war, don’t the demonstrators tell both sides? Saddam might be able to feel he is being supported by our demonstrators. I wonder why we didn’t demonstrate in Iraq?
