Police investigate slaying at Lawrence apartment complex

Lawrence Police have detained a man for questioning in the killing of another man late Friday or early Saturday at a Lawrence apartment complex.

Lt. David Cobb said the victim had not been identified and would offer no details on the man detained except to say that “he may turn into a darn good suspect.”

Police responded to a tip about 2 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex at 1722 W. 24th St. The informant, whom police would not identify, said someone had been seriously injured late Friday or early Saturday. When no one answered the door in question, the apartment manager let police into the apartment, where they found the victim, a white man about 50 years old.

Cobb said a scene of violence had occurred in the apartment, but would not provide details about the scene or the manner of death.

Cobb said residents in the building were not aware of the crime.

“Inside the apartment complex, nobody actually knew anything had happened, he said.
