Shooting at house investigated

Several gunshots were fired at a house early Wednesday, possibly from a passing car, Lawrence Police said.

No one was injured in the 2:45 a.m. incident at a residence in the 300 block of North Michigan Street, Sgt. Mike Pattrick said Thursday. A total of nine people ranging in age from 15 to 49 were in the house at the time, he said.

“We’re still investigating, and no one has been arrested,” Pattrick said.

Someone at the residence called police and gave a description of a car that drove from the area after the shooting, Pattrick said. The car, a gray Oldsmobile Cutlass matching that description, was stopped by a patrol officer a few minutes later in the 100 block of Florida Street.

Inside the car were five men, all in their 20s, Pattrick said. The men were questioned by officers and then released. No weapon was recovered.

Police wouldn’t say how many shots might have been fired or how many hit the house.

“We do have evidence that gunshots were fired at and into (the house),” Pattrick said.

Thursday what appeared to be at least one bullet hole could be seen on the front wall of the house below a window.

No one at the residence would talk about the incident. At least one neighbor, who declined to be identified, said he’d heard at least four shots.
