Deer danger

To the editor:

The amount of cars hitting deer is too high in this area; yet another person has died from this. The woman who was killed on Kansas Highway 10 a few weeks ago did not need to die.

There were more than 10,000 car-deer collisions in Kansas last year. When is enough enough? Maybe the next one will be your son, your daughter, or your mother or father. Which one would you prefer?

The state needs to have a controlled kill of the massive herds in the area to make the roads safe to travel. I know deer are pretty and fun to watch, but try hitting one at 70 mph.

The state could charge a $10 fee to join in the reduction hunt and also salvage the meat for schools and the needy in the area. This would save lives and maybe help control our insurance costs.

The damage to farm crops is immeasurable. It’s too high to even count. I don’t think the farmers would mind a 60 percent reduction of the deer population at all. Just ask them.
