Agency responds

To the editor:

Reading the article by Scott Rothschild and Dave Ranney, I strongly resent the fact that anyone could state that advocates worry about the new survey process leading to coercion between inspectors and facility managers. The new survey is geared toward the care and needs of the resident.

I do not believe the state is “far too sensitive to concerns of the industry and not sensitive enough to concerns of the residents,” as the article quoted a Lawrence attorney as saying. I have experienced the sensitivity they show to the residents’ needs and care.

We are regulated, but our residents do not require skilled care. They require assistance with their activities of daily living.

I suggest that they take a tour of a nursing home and assisted living so that they can understand the difference between the two. Please let the public know that other advocates do not feel the same as the attorney.
