Area counties prepare for Tuesday primaries

Voters will report to the polls Tuesday for primaries to whittle the fields of candidates for city councils and schools boards in several area counties.

Or at least Lucy Patterson hopes so.

“I don’t think there’s going to be a very big turnout,” said Patterson, election clerk in Jefferson County. “We haven’t had any advance voting.”

Polls will be open for the primaries from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Advance voting for primaries closes at noon Monday.

Primaries are designed to cut the number of candidates on ballots for the general election, which will be April 1.
