LHS girls clobber SM West, 60-39

? When you stick to a plan, things come out well.

That’s the lesson the Lawrence High girls basketball team learned Tuesday in a 60-39 victory against Shawnee Mission West.

The Lions played trap defense, looked for steals and got the ball inside.

“We looked to play our style of game, and it really paid off for us,” Lawrence High coach Kristen Mallory said.

The Lions (13-4 overall, 6-2 Sunflower League) led 34-17 at halftime. Josie Polk led LHS with 19 points and point guard Leigh DeBiasse added nine.

“Leigh had a good game for us,” Mallory said. “We don’t always ask her to score a lot but she was really aggressive at the start of the game. When we can get a scoring punch from her that definitely helps.”

Mallory said the Lions did a good job of getting the ball inside, drawing fouls from SM West (7-10, 2-5).

LHS plays host Friday to Olathe South.
