Lawrence City Commission

Commission considers benefit district

Bottom Line

The Lawrence City Commission will receive a letter from Orchards Neighborhood requesting formation of special assessment benefit district to finance a portion of the acquisition costs for the Orchards Golf Course at 3000 W. 15th St..

Background

The city made an offer of $670,000 for the property in May, but the owner declined. Neighbors of the course don’t want it developed; they’re offering to be taxed in a special benefit district to make up the $280,000 difference between what the city offered and the owner wants.
