Money alert

To the editor:

The front page of the Journal-World Dec. 7 should alert citizens about the way money is controlling our daily activities.

In recent years, athletic sports fans are paying more to have seats to view various athletic games. This money then goes to pay for more leadership positions in athletic programs.

Increasing the funds for college athletic programs encourages more players. Also, when players look ahead to see the salaries of professional players, it makes the games even more attractive. I have read recent news reports about some professional players getting annual salaries of several million dollars. It’s no longer a sport; it’s a big business.

To see how money is controlling our democracy, look at television and printed reports on how money is used to support candidates running for public office. Perhaps we should put a limit on the amount of money each candidate can use in their effort to hold a public office. If citizens don’t become organized to solve this problem, democracy will fade away.
