Cut golf losses

To the editor:

A news article in the Journal-World on Nov. 21 stated that the city-owned Eagle Bend Golf Course is in financial trouble. The planners of the golf course were warned by local businessmen that it would be difficult to financially survive even with free land and free water. They ignored this warning.

I, as a taxpayer, would object to the city subsidizing the greens fees of the golfers. If the course is unprofitable, then shut off the water meter and return the land to pasture. Further, let’s hope that the city does not enter into any commercial ventures.
