Offices to close for holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday for Labor Day. City offices in surrounding towns, including Ottawa, Tonganoxie, Baldwin, McLouth, Oskaloosa, DeSoto and Eudora, also will be closed.

Classes are canceled at Kansas University and Lawrence public schools.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday. The Lawrence Transit System will be closed and no buses will run, including paratransit. Parking in downtown Lawrence will be free.

Grass clippings won’t be collected by the city Monday, but Lawrence sanitation crews will take them along with regular trash this week. Commercial collections will go on as scheduled.

While Lawrence recreation facilities and classes will be closed and canceled, the Eagle Bend Golf Course, the Outdoor Aquatic Center and the Indoor Aquatic Center will be open.

State law requires liquor stores to close on Labor Day, and banks will be closed as well.

Neither United Parcel Service or the post office will be open or making deliveries, except for Express Mail deliveries.
