High standards

To the editor:

I’d like to respond to those who question the integrity of models who pose for the “Women of KU” calendar.

Before they criticize these young women, they should do their homework. If they do, they will find out that, first and foremost, these girls do not, have not and will never strip for anyone in conjunction with this calendar. They are held to a very high set of moral standards and conduct from which they do not stray. They take the honor (and that is truly what it is) of being chosen for this calendar very seriously.

The importance of obtaining a quality college education comes first with these young women, and they all work diligently to attain just that. Their majors at the University of Kansas include pre-med, pre-law, journalism, education and chemical engineering, just to name a few. Some are past valedictorians and National Honor Society members. They are active members of sororities on campus, are members of various university clubs and organizations, as well as doing volunteer and charity work in Lawrence and their hometowns.

These girls exemplify hard work and commitment in everything they do. Just because they are beautiful, as well, is certainly no reason to try and belittle them.
