Conservatives?

To the editor:

The federal government’s debt ceiling is limited by law. But Congress and the president regularly approve higher debt ceilings. On May 27, President Bush signed a measure increasing the debt limit by $984 billion. He did so after a similar measure boosting the ceiling by $450 billion only one year ago.

Yet the nation’s mass media continue to portray President Bush and the Republican-led Congress as conservatives. Sad to say, the only thing they seem interested in conserving is their own positions, and they do so by approving, even expanding, unconstitutional vote-buying schemes.
