To the editor:

The organizing committee of the Crosstown Unity Run wishes to thank the Lawrence community for its support of the cross country and track programs at Free State and Lawrence High Schools through their sponsorship, volunteering and participation in Saturday’s Crosstown Unity Run. The Unity Run provides needed financial support in track and cross country programs with large numbers of participants (including boys and girls) that have been depleted by budget cuts. Special thanks go to the Lawrence Police Department for contributing to the safety of the run and to the University of Kansas for permitting the run to cross campus. We were very grateful for the involvement of Red Dog Day’s participants in the run. The Unity Run lived up to its name as friendship, sportsmanship and camaraderie between athletes, parents and the community ruled the day.
