Lawrence, Free State add aides

Lawrence High and Free State each filled vacant assistant-coach positions this past month, but both still have several slots to fill.

The Lions are about to solidify their head-coaching roles.

LHS hired Chip Anderson as its new boys and girls cross country coach, replacing Dick Reamon. LHS athletics director Ron Commons also expects to finalize a replacement for boys and girls soccer coach Keith Nelson this morning. The Lions are expected to have co-head coaches.

The Lions’ new assistant coaches include cross country coach Kelly Temple and volleyball coach Molly LaMere. LHS is still seeking assistant girls basketball, boys basketball and boys soccer coaches.

The Firebirds hired Brett Oberzan and Carl Smith as football coaches, and Dustin Loechner will help coach cross country and girls basketball. FSHS still needs assistant volleyball, softball and baseball coaches.

Also, LHS is holding a fall sports parent information meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 in the LHS auditorium. Free State’s parent meeting will be 5 p.m. Aug. 15 in the FSHS auditorium.
