Severe weather damages homes; tornado spotted

? A storm that moved through Kansas and Missouri on Tuesday night damaged homes and downed power lines and trees, authorities said.

The storm produced strong straight-line winds and there was a confirmed sighting of one tornado.

In Crawford County, six homes were damaged and a machine shed was destroyed. The Crawford County Fair was shut down for about an hour. There also were reports of golfball-sized hail, toppled electrical lines and damaged trees.

No injuries were reported.

Though a funnel cloud was spotted, Crawford County 911 Director John Gagliardo said he suspected most of the damage was the result of straight-line winds.

The damage was confined to a three-mile area in western Crawford County not far from the spot where the May 4 tornado first hit before cutting a half-mile swath across the width of the county.

The city of Arma also was without power Tuesday night.
