Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A mailbox in the shape of a fishing lure — complete with two large hooks hanging from the bottom for packages — disappeared from a man’s home in the 100 section of East 550 Road near Overbrook.

The green mailbox, worth $80, disappeared sometime between 11:30 p.m. Friday and noon the next day, according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report.

  • A 23-year-old Lawrence woman reported two bicycles worth a total of $1,390 stolen from her apartment in the 1100 block of Ohio Street. One is a black Cannondale worth $990, and the other is an Orange Trek worth $400. The theft happened sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to a report.
  • A 21-year-old woman told police someone stole $1,800 in currency and $565 in money orders sometime between July 26 and Thursday in the 600 block of Eldridge Street.
  • A downtown clothing store reported $917 in currency and $459 in personal checks stolen. The theft happened July 27 or 28 at Britches Clothing Co., 843 Mass., according to a police report.
  • A 28-year-old Lawrence woman reported her 1995 Chevy Lumina van stolen Thursday morning from the 1900 block of Delaware Street. She estimated the van’s value at $5,000.
  • A Honda four-wheeler worth $4,000 disappeared sometime between midnight and 11 a.m. July 21 from a business in the 1200 block of Iowa Street. The owner was a 70-year-old retired Lawrence resident.
