Jackson wins for Free State
Wichita ? Free State High sophomore Ashley Jackson was the city’s lone individual champion Saturday at the Trinity Academy Invitational.
Lawrence High edged the Firebirds in the team standings, 184-180, for fourth place overall. Olathe East dominated the 21-team swim meet with 366 points.
The Lions had three top-five finishers, as sophomore Melissa Little was second in the 500 freestyle. Her time of 5:22.65 couldn’t match Jackson’s 5:14.58, though.
FSHS, which had five top-five placers, got a state-qualifying performance from sophomore Julie McGinn, who was seventh in the 100 breaststroke at 1:14.9.
“She was on fire,” FSHS coach Jama Crady said. “She pulled out her best time in the 100 free, too.”
Both teams travel Thursday to Blue Valley North.
