Post office seeks food donations

Next month, letter carriers will be delivering mail and collecting food.

On May 10, Lawrence residents are asked to place nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes for collection by letter carriers. The food will be taken to food banks where it will be made available to the needy.

Since 1991 letter carriers have used one day a year to collect food. Last year in Lawrence, 18,400 pounds of food was collected.

Food banks in Lawrence that will benefit are Douglas County ECKAN, Salvation Army, Penn House, Ballard Center and Pelathe Center.
