Amazing lady

To the editor:

I wanted to thank you for the April 14 article about the Vermont Tower residents. When Grandma moved there from Kansas City, our part of the family was (and most still are) living in Minnesota. I’ve visited Grandma in Lawrence several times. She’s the one responsible for getting me to learn how to cook and teaching me to sew and knit. She introduced me to strawberries fresh from the patch, freshly canned peaches, and oatmeal. She taught me which piano keys were which and never discouraged me from playing whenever I was at her house — which was as often as I could get there.

All this happened by the time I was 12 years old. Our family then moved to Dallas and later to Minneapolis. Last year, over Memorial Day weekend, Grandma came to visit. Dad drove to Lawrence and brought her to Minnesota for her almost-yearly visit. It just happened to work out that he needed to come to Montana and brought Grandma with him.

Even at 96, she still does manage to get around, and not just to the grocery store. Two weeks ago I received a birthday card from her kidding me about the approach of my 50th birthday next year. She said it was “a nice round number.” She is a truly amazing person. I think I speak for our entire family when I say we are truly blessed to have this amazing lady in our lives.
