To the editor:

Roy Williams has always been a class act. He has brought pride to our community by conducting himself honorably and expecting the same of his team. The Kansas University men’s basketball team were champions when he arrived, and Williams has maintained that spirit of championship for 15 years. That is quite an accomplishment.

The city of Lawrence has always been a class act also. Let’s not embarrass ourselves further by continuing to take this so personally.

Roy’s decision to accept the position at North Carolina is his to make and his alone. He has done nothing to deserve all the negative comments, attitudes and T-shirts that are currently making their way across our city, our state and our country. Instead, let’s just appreciate what he has given our community in the past 15 years and wish him the best.
