City baseball showdown washed out, rescheduled
Saturday’s much-anticipated city baseball showdown between unbeaten Free State and once-beaten Lawrence High was rained out.
The game, also washed earlier this season, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 3 at the FSHS field.
“It’s frustrating,” Free State coach Mike Hill said. “Our kids and certainly the Lawrence High kids were excited about playing each other.”
Free State (10-0) is Kansas’ top-ranked team in Class 6A. Lawrence (7-1) is ranked second, although the Lions could slip following Friday’s 4-2 loss to Olathe South.
Both the Lions and Firebirds are scheduled to play Tuesday — Free State at home against Leavenworth and Lawrence High at Olathe East.
