Boos in N.Y.

To the editor:

I heard Roy Williams on ESPN say that Kansas University fans don’t know how great North Carolina fans are and vice versa. Well, I was at the preseason National Invitation Tournament in New York, and I have a pretty good idea of what the North Carolina fans are like.

While KU fans cheered coach Matt Doherty and North Carolina’s players, North Carolina fans rained insults down upon KU, coach Williams and Jayhawk fans. When we chanted the Rock Chalk chant, they chanted along with obscenities. North Carolina fans yelled insults about the state of Kansas, KU and even Lawrence.

I was wearing a KU Final Four sweatshirt and repeatedly was insulted to my face with curse words by those in powder blue while walking through the arena. My friend and I came away from Madison Square Garden prouder than ever to be Jayhawks and resolved to never be as daggum rude and thoughtless as the North Carolina fans. I wonder, didn’t Roy hear the boos when he was introduced in New York?
