To the editor:

As a parent of a graduate of the Lawrence Alternative High School, I am fiercely defensive of this school’s value and continued well being. I have talked to numerous other parents whose children’s high school careers were saved by the school. My oldest son’s attitude toward taking his course work seriously was transformed literally overnight as soon as he made the switch from Lawrence High. He actually received an award for most improved student during one of his years at the alternative high school.

I fully support Mary Loveland’s opposition to Rich Minder’s proposal to close the alternative high school, and I hope Mr. Minder will deepen his understanding of the role that school plays in our community.
