Firebirds still undefeated

? Free State High extended its winning streak to 10 games Thursday with an 11-1 baseball victory against Belton.

Blake Dickson (2-0) struck out eight and walked none in a complete-game three-hitter.

“He was dominant,” Free State coach Mike Hill said. “Other than back-to-back singles in the fifth inning, he was in complete control the entire game.”

Brothers Robby and Ryne Price each had two hits, and Chris Coleman was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

“It was another good win,” Hill said. “We just want to keep it rolling.”

Free State, the top-ranked team in Class 6A, will try to extend the best winning streak in school history to 11 games Saturday at home against second-ranked Lawrence High.

“In my opinion, Lawrence High is the best team in the state,” Hill said. “They’re well-coached. They have outstanding pitching. We’ll have to play our best game of the year to compete.”
