To the editor:

We are loyal KU fans. We have had season tickets in Allen Fieldhouse for years and years. We are sad to see Coach Williams leave but we understand his reasons for leaving. We wish him well and look forward to supporting a new coach.

However, we were bothered by his choice to make his formal announcement in Chapel Hill. We thought Roy should have held a news conference here, in front of a KU flag, telling the Kansas press and Kansas fans his decision and another one in Chapel Hill in front of the UNC flag introducing him as their new coach. We watched the news conference (Monday) night and it was very hard to watch. We felt like ex-in-laws being told by our ex-son-in-law how great his time was with our daughter, but it was time to move on and he was telling us at his new wife’s house with all of her family present.

We were also disappointed that he did not talk to the incoming recruits before the announcement. The new recruits and their parents deserved to hear the news from him and not from the media.
