Heavy burden

To the editor:

Roy Williams is, and always will be, a class act no matter what happens with Carolina. Three years ago, I wrote my displeasure with those who had already written him off when the position first opened. This year, Roy received numerous letters the first month of the season citing the team’s disappointing 3-3 start, yet they were able to battle through and finish as national runner-up.

KU will always have ups and downs despite the players and coaches! These kids and coaches are pouring their hearts and souls into competing for the university and should be commended for their efforts. Roy and the team have earned support. At one point, ESPN was reporting that Roy wouldn’t dare turn Carolina down a second time saying he feels responsible for their current problems. What a shame to put that on Roy’s shoulders!

I hope once again he stays, as he truly is KU basketball. If he were to leave, all KU fans should feel blessed to have had Roy for 15 years and wish him the best. It has to be a gut-wrenching decision that very few people in America could understand. Please take time to thank Coach regardless of what happens. Too many times we take success for granted. To both the players and coaches, thank you for your hard work this season and for an exciting tournament run.
