Roofing tar melts skylight in KU building
Five units from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical were called Friday afternoon to the Kansas University campus after roofing tar was accidentally dripped onto a skylight and melted through to a classroom floor.
No one was injured and minimal damage was reported in the incident that occurred about 2:20 p.m. at the Art and Design Building, Capt. Nathan Stover said.
Probation office find goes unclaimed
The question was asked, but no hands went up.
Friday morning at the Douglas County Judicial & Law Enforcement Center, an employee found a plastic baggie containing what looked like marijuana on the floor in front of a reception window in the county’s Community Corrections Office.
About six men — most of them there to check in with a probation officer after a criminal conviction — were sitting in the office at the time.
“I reached over and picked it up and said, ‘Whoa! Look at this!'” said Tony Jones, who coordinates community-service work for the office. “I held it up and said, ‘Would anybody like to claim this?'”
No one claimed the bag, and Jones turned it over to police.
