Free State softball swept

? Olathe North swept Free State High in a season-opening softball doubleheader, 6-0 and 2-0, Friday.

Sophomore Ashley Wagner went 2-for-3 in each game and had a triple for the Firebirds, who travel Tuesday to SM Northwest.

“I thought that overall we didn’t make mental mistakes. When you go out in the first doubleheader, you hope you don’t have those,” FSHS coach Pam Pine said. “We just didn’t hit well. Their pitcher did a nice job of keeping the ball at different speeds and moving different pitches. Our infield played great. Our outfield made some nice catches.”

The Free State JV dropped a twinbill to North, 21-1 and 17-3.
