Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 1996 Nissan was reportedly taken sometime between 10 p.m. Monday and 6 p.m. Tuesday from the 600 block of Vermont Street. The car, valued at $12,000, belonged to a Leawood man whose son is a Kansas University student.
  • Three female KU students who live together in the 900 block of Missouri Street lost $2,610 in property in a burglary between 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Monday. They reported a $1,600 laptop computer, a $475 camera and $500 cash taken.

Police reports

  • The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible case of elder abuse. A family member between Feb. 9 and March 31 allegedly obtained real estate and money from an 87-year-old woman’s trust, Lt. Kathy Tate said. The victim is a rural Lawrence resident, but Tate would not release any more information about the case.
  • Criminal damage to a swimming pool cover and iron fence occurred at Clinton Place Apartments sometime between 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Lawrence Police report. The damage was estimated at $3,500.
