To the editor:

I agree with the supporters of Kansas University's School of Social Welfare who say Dennis Dailey's course has helped many students not only learn about their own sexuality but also serves the social purpose of demystifying sex, STDs, sexual violence, etc. As April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, these comments are timely. In addition to these words of support, I'd like to add my own.

I am a KU student who received my bachelor's degree in social work and will be completing my master's in social work in May. Not only would it be a blow to the school to have its budget cut, it would be a blow to the community at large. KU's School of Social Welfare does a lot of volunteer work for the community, as well as providing tens of thousands of hours of service through student field placements. In addition, the School of Social Welfare does a lot of research into aging, women's issues and children. Cutting the budget to the school because of the complaints of one or two students would do a disservice to the thousands of people who benefit from the good work of the school.
