Basketball roots

To the editor:

As I watch CBS’s program reviewing their top 10 coaches of all time, one thing keeps coming to mind. coach John Wooden never went back to Purdue, coach Mike Krzyzewski never went back to Army, and coach Dean Smith never came back to Kansas. To coach Roy Williams, you, with your players and coaches, have created something special in Lawrence. Heck, on Dec. 1, 1990, was my first date with a KU student named Tracy. She invited me up for my first KU game. Ironically that game was versus Marquette.

Thirteen years later, she is my wife of nine years, and we have twin 4-year-olds. Our beginning is just one of a million memories for Kansas basketball fans for the last 15 years. I know Carolina is where you are from, but the roots of your Kansas basketball tree are in Lawrence. This is the tree you created and one we hope you maintain until the time you retire.
