Legal lapse

To the editor:

I am writing to you about the city’s lack of enforcement of the laws and its own ordinances. First, I want to address the group that was trying to save the 75-year-old elm tree. The land that tree was on is privately owned. That group was trespassing, yet they were allowed to stay, even though they were breaking the law.

Secondly, I would like to address the people who camped in South Park protesting the war. Those protesters were breaking two city ordinances. One was no camping in city parks, and the other to be out of city parks by midnight. If I or any of my friends went there and camped, or tried to, we would be escorted off by the police and fined. If the city will enforce the laws for normal citizens, it must enforce the laws for all citizens.

I also want to call on the war protesters to stop protesting. We are at war, and there is no point to continue the protests. They need to support our troops who are over in the Middle East fighting for our freedoms, and to give the Iraqi people their freedom.
