CLAREMORE, OKLA. ? Claremore High is ranked No. 1 in Oklahoma’s Class 5A, but Free State High pitcher Matt Lane shut it down.

Lane (3-0) threw a complete game and struck out three, leading the Firebirds to a 9-4 victory Friday. Matt Berner and Ryne Price each added two RBIs for Free State, which remained undefeated at 4-0.

Firebirds coach Mike Hill said Lane had been unstoppable this season.

“He pitched very, very well today; he got ahead of people,” Hill said. “He’s been our horse so far.”

Kyle Unruh was 3-for-4 and David Allen 2-for-3 for the Firebirds, who will play Springfield (Mo.) Glendale at noon today.
