Tolerant approach

To the editor:

I would like to thank city officials and the police for the quiet tolerance they showed toward the “tent city” in South Park. The people who were participating feel strongly against the war in Iraq and chose a path that brought them to our notice without offense.

I went to one of the evening meetings and found them to be a group of diverse ages, although mainly young. The meeting was run with careful regard for the various viewpoints in the antiwar movement and a real effort to avoid the type of power plays that plague our world. I was deeply moved to see young people living up to their ideals and acting on their convictions.

Thanks, again, to our great city for a tolerant approach. Where would we be if no Americans had ever pushed the limits to our freedoms?
