Wake-up call
To the editor:
I cannot understand why the Journal-World is not reporting all the important news to its subscribers.
For example, it seems the J-W has not reported that the insurance industry, having been locked out of the Earth Summit by big oil and the Bush administration, and facing huge losses, is now taking the position that it will not pay for future climate-related losses.
Reuters News Service reported this development on Sept. 6, well over a week ago.
Quoting the Reuters article, the insurance companies said, “They will simply exclude paying out claims from events, such as flooding or windstorms, caused by global warming, leaving governments, business and individuals to pick up the bill themselves.”
And who can blame them? If a house is on fire and the owners are guilty of starting the fire, refuse to call the fire department and simply watch as the house burns to the ground, should the insurance company be required to build them a new house? I don’t think so. Wake up, America.
