Bounty hunter awaits jury’s decision

A Douglas County jury late Tuesday began deliberating whether a 41-year-old bounty hunter was guilty of kidnapping, aggravated burglary and impersonating a police officer while serving a warrant at a Lawrence home.

Assistant Dist. Atty. Ruth Ritthaler said Tim James participated in efforts Jan. 15, 2001, “calculated to confuse” and terrorized the victims, Rick Ramos and his mother, Gloria Ramos.

James was one of four men who entered the Ramoses’ East Lawrence home looking for a “Terry Fincher.”

James’ attorney, Charles Branson, noted Rick Ramos waited two days to call Lawrence Police to inquire about a $1,000 reward Johnson said he would get if Fincher was ultimately arrested.

“This isn’t somebody who has been terrorized,” Branson told the jury. “It’s no big deal until he (Ramos) doesn’t get his thousand- dollar reward.”
