A livable city?

To the editor:

With the addition of “big box” developments such as Home Depot to the south and a possible Wal-Mart Supercenter to the west, Lawrence often seems more concerned with increasing the tax base and padding developer’s pockets than with quality of life for residents.

Issues such as the South Lawrence Trafficway, lights and street work at 31st Street, Louisiana Street and Haskell Avenue, the lack of grocery shopping to the east, lack of stop signs in neighborhoods with children all go into making a town livable. Lawrence is becoming just another urban sprawl with congested traffic and endless parking lots.
