Council interest
To the editor:
When will Eudora move beyond the “good ol’ boy” network and mentality? In the May 16 issue of the Eudora News, the current mayor is quoted as saying, “I think we’d like to get someone who’s genuinely interested in the job” in response to Doug Woods’ resignation from the Eudora City Council. Not only did I run for a city council seat in the last election, I also sent the current mayor a letter indicating my interest the day after Doug Woods’ resignation was announced. The other council members also received a copy.
After more than three months, I still have not received an acknowledgment or response from the mayor or his office. At the Eudora City Council meeting on Aug. 26, Doug Woods’ replacement was finally recommended and quickly voted on and passed (3 votes to 1). I regularly attend council meetings, as does Robin Ross, who also ran for a city council seat twice. I have yet to see the “appointee” attend a council meeting, nor did he run for the office in the last election. So, where is the “genuine interest”? Obviously, the mayor’s definition is much different than mine.
Why wasn’t my interest even acknowledged? How many others indicated an interest? Why was the vote so quickly taken without much opportunity or discussion? Is there some hidden agenda here? Mayor Conner, can you please answer these questions?
Beverly M. Koerner,
Eudora
