108th Aviation unit likely going to Bosnia

About 120 soldiers of the Kansas Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation unit are expected to be mobilized in November 2002, the Adjutant General’s Department said.

The 108th Aviation is expected to serve as part of the guard’s 35th Infantry Division’s rotation in Bosnia.

The 108th Aviation, which has headquarters in Topeka and units in Salina, flies UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Their mission is to provide reconnaissance, air assault, command and control, air movement, electronic warfare, aerial sustainment, medical evaluation and other support.

The 108th Aviation is beginning an intensive training period in preparation for the situations it will encounter in Bosnia.
