U.S. contrasts

To the editor:

I would like to differ from Mr. Kelvin Schartz’s catalog of reasons the U.S. is resented worldwide. My first point is illustrated by Mr. Schartz’s letter. We enjoy freedom (under law). Dictatorial and totalitarian regimes would not permit a letter like his to be printed in a daily newspaper. The second point is opportunity. We are a nation where an immigrant can work hard and succeed in contrast to more socialistic nations.

I note that I fly an American flag and have been shot at by hostile, armed enemies of the United States in World War II, the Korean police action, and during the unpleasantness in Vietnam.
