Abilene: Forum offers overview of presidential libraries
The Visitors Center at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library in Abilene will be the site of a public forum about presidential libraries at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The directors of the 10 presidential libraries will offer brief descriptions of each library, including new attractions, and take questions from the audience. Participants will also learn about the Clinton Presidential Materials Project in Little Rock, Ark., and the Nixon Presidential Materials Project in College Park, Md.
Richard Claypool, assistant archivist for presidential libraries, will also participate in the forum at 200 SE Fourth St.

Fort Dodge: New veterans cemetery to be dedicated Friday
The Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs will dedicate the Fort Dodge Veterans Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Fort Dodge, southeast of Dodge City.
The cemetery the first of four new veteran cemeteries in the state will serve southwest Kansas. New cemeteries are also planned in WaKeeney, Winfield and Fort Riley.
Guests at the dedication will include U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran, U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, state Rep. Melvin Neufeld and state Sen. Tim Huelskamp.
Money for the cemeteries came from the Cemetery Grant Program through the Intergovernmental Affairs Division of the Veterans Administration.

Topeka: Potential recruits learn military skills
Heartland Park in Topeka tested the military skills of 114 new and potential recruits Oct. 19 and 20 at this year’s Warrior Weekend.
The Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, along with several artillery brigades, battalions and recruiting staff, sponsored the weekend for high school students and graduates as well as military recruits who have not yet had formal training. Participants tested their physical fitness, marksmanship skills, command skills and teamwork abilities on the paint ball course.
Participants also took military skills classes and became familiar with military equipment.
