Power shift
To the editor:
The haves get more and more and the have-nots get less and less.
Why is it as the economy goes down, there is even more taking by the haves from the have-nots?
Have the haves taken control of Lawrence to the point where they can openly take anything from the have-nots?
When I lived in the South, the have-nots went to schools with dirt floors. But after integration this was not acceptable for the haves.
It appears that funding on some schools has been limited to the point to where the neglect of funding justifies closure. Why do the haves advocate busing the have-nots to the overcrowded classrooms? Do the haves want to take away the smaller class sizes from the have-nots?
The haves are even using the city to maximize their access to the streets while minimizing and making access for their competitors and the public unsafe.
The haves want to take away the customers from the have-nots. Even though the have-nots hardly have enough to survive.
The haves can have dry lots on the hills, but they can dump water on and flood the have-nots.
When H.G. Wells wrote the Time Machine, he described the haves as Morlocks. Are the Morlocks trying to control Lawrence? Should we allow this?
The haves need to be more benevolent to the have-nots or the have-nots may return to the voting booths and take back some of the power taken by the haves.
Jim Turrentine,
Lawrence
