The game: With starting running back David Allen out because of a strained knee ligament, Aber ran for a season-high 55 yards on 10 carries in the Firebirds’ 42-26 loss to Lawrence High last Friday. He scored Free State’s only rushing touchdown, and also caught two passes for 25 yards, including a 10-yard score in the fourth quarter. His running style go through people, not around them typified his night, as he only had one carry less than four yards.

Comment: “Joe’s a determined runner,” FSHS coach Bob Lisher said. “He does not go down easy. He’s got the strength to do that, and he showed that Friday.”
